The 2020 Women’s Trial Academy is being postponed due to the COVID 19 Pandemic. Renée Rothauge is now a Partner at Perkins Coie LLP in Portland, and looks forward to working with guest coaches in 2021 to help women trial lawyers enhance advocacy skills in a small, collaborative setting.

The 2019 Rothauge Women’s Trial Academy is Friday April 5, 2019 and Saturday April 6, 2019, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the law firm of Markowitz Herbold PC in Portland. Cost is $225.
The Academy is the first trial practice course designed and taught by women. Renée Rothauge and guest coaches help trial lawyers enhance advocacy skills in a small, collaborative group setting.
Are you a civil litigator with three to six years of experience and a desire to hone your trial skills? If the answer is yes, the Women’s Trial Academy (WTA) is designed just for you. The WTA is an award-winning workshop that has helped prepare some of Oregon’s leading young litigators for trial.
Created in 2014 by Markowitz Herbold attorney Renée Rothauge and her former colleague Lisa Kaner, the WTA is designed for young women civil litigators who want to sharpen their trial skills and learn to turn perceived disadvantages into strength and winning strategies.
The WTA is hands-on workshop focusing on important aspects of trial. Each aspect will be enhanced by “guest coaches” who will offer their expertise.
Your trial skills will be developed by trying a case over the course of the workshop. The sessions will address some of the unique challenges women face in the courtroom in a small group setting. Participants will conduct mock openings, direct examinations, and closings, along with other key parts of trial.
Tuition for the academy is $225. Scholarships are available for legal aid lawyers. Participation is limited to 12 litigators. The WTA will be held at the Markowitz Herbold office in Portland.
Participants must be members of the Oregon State Bar and OWLS. If you are interested in participating, email Karie Trujillo.
