Nik Chourey, Oregon State Bar, will present this vital and practical CLE. This program is intended to help lawyers meet their legal responsibilities as mandatory reporters while maintaining their ethical obligations to clients. The program will cover topics such as the elements triggering a duty to report, the who/why/how of reporting, ethical lawyering applied to mandatory reporting, as well as the duty to self & well-being.
Nik Chourey is Deputy General Counsel of the Oregon State Bar (OSB) and represents the OSB in non-disciplinary litigation. He provides legal advice to the OSB in matters of bar governance, regulation of lawyers, employment, policy development, and public records and meetings law. He provides ethics advice to all OSB members in writing and by phone, and writes and speaks on ethics and mandatory abuse reporting issues for Continuing Legal Education programs and OSB publications. Before his current role with the OSB, he was a bar prosecutor, assigned to attorney discipline matters. His private practice as a trial attorney in civil litigation began in 2008. Since that time, he has tried multiple cases to jury verdicts and defended clients in courts throughout Oregon. Outside of his role with OSB, Nik is a commissioner for the Oregon Liquor & Cannabis Commission.
