OWLS IN (Intersectionality Network) invites you, legal professionals with disabilities and their allies, to our Lawyers with Disabilities Social. Please join us on September 8 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm for a gathering at Director Park, 815 SW Park Ave in downtown Portland. Nazari Law will provide back-to-school- themed snacks and nonalcoholic beverages.
We want to pick a name for this gathering. Have ideas? Bring them and let’s talk them through.
Meet like-minded people and individuals who have possibly faced some of the same challenges that you have. Build relationships in the community or see old friends. And, of course, enjoy great food and drink. Hope to see you there!
Please RSVP to Diane by Tuesday, September 6 at 5:00 pm.
In 2011, the ABA announced that reporting jurisdictions estimated that lawyers with disabilities comprised only .15% to 1% of their respective legal communities. (See http://www.americanbar.org/content/dam/aba/uncategorized/2011/20110314_aba_disability_statistics_report.pdf.) The ABA identified several potential issues that affect this minority group, including lack of funds for the LSAT, difficulties with passing the bar exam, a lack of accommodations, and difficulty with finding employment. We have long learned to advocate for ourselves as individuals in the face of these issues, but as many members of specialty bars know, solidarity and camaraderie are priceless.
