Please join OWLS-Mary Leonard Chapter at the State of Oregon law Library, Oregon Supreme Court Building, 1163 State Street, for a special ethics CLE on a new amendment to the Oregon Rules of Professional Conduct. Rule 8.4(a)(7) addresses bias and prejudice in the legal system, specifically prohibiting an attorney from knowingly engaging in conduct manifesting bias or prejudice based on one of several protected qualities, including race, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, ethnicity, or gender expression.
Michael D. Levelle from Portland firm Sussman Shank will discuss his role on the committee responsible for the amendment, while Oregon State Bar General Counsel Amber Hollister will talk about important ways in which the Bar may interpret the rule in the future. Come learn how the new anti-bias amendment may affect your practice, and get your final ethics credit for the year!
Application will be made for 1.0 Ethics MCLE credit for this program. $20 for nonmembers; $15 for members; $10 for judicial law clerks and new admittees. Free for those not seeking credit. You are welcome to bring your lunch. Please RSVP at maryleonardlawsociety.org.
